OPEN CALL FOR CREATIVES TO JOIN GAP PEER-TO-PEER (SVE/ENG) PROGRAMME (October 2024 – May 2025)

In the autumn, Globe Art Point (G.A.P) starts running a second edition of its peer-to-peer programme targeting foreign-born art and culture professionals who chose Swedish to be their integration path in Finland as well as Finnish-Swedish professionals in the field of art and culture. The programme runs in English language, free of charge for the participants. 

The aim of the programme is to bring together international professionals and Swedish speaking Finns; artists and cultural workers to learn from one another within the landscape of the Finnish-Swedish environment. 

STRUCTURE

The programme welcomes 14 professional creatives; 7 foreign-born & 7 Finnish-Swedes to join GAP PEER-TO-PEER (SVE/ENG) 2024-2025.

The sessions will be held bi-monthly (every 2 weeks) in Globe Art Point’s office in Kamppi. Each session will take approximately 2,5h (5.00 – 7.30pm) and consist of moderated discussion, small group activities and presentations by industry experts on various topics, for example, grant applications, anti-racism and mental wellbeing, providing both practical guidance and emotional support to enhance the participants’ professional and personal development.

The programme will also include some independent work for people to complete outside the regular meetings and field trips to the Finnish-Swedish cultural institutions within the region of Nyland (Uusimaa). The field trips are additional sessions scheduled on weekends or late afternoons (optional). Last year we visited Ekenäs and Loviisa. 

The programme will conclude by a voluntary group project presented at the end of the programme at one of the Finnish-Swedish institutions in the Uusimaa region.

PROGRAMME FACILITATORS

Wena Ho – Curator of Education
Wena aspires to be an empathetic educator. Her interests revolve around participation and human connection among the versatile contemporary art practices. Having worked as a researcher and educator at K11 Art Foundation, she has curated educational programs for various social groups and developed learning materials, in collaboration with creatives and institutions in Hong Kong, Tokyo, New York, London and more. She received her Master’s in Education in Finland. She finds joy in connecting with open-minded, like-hearted people and indulging in conversation that inspires. She is the founding facilitator of the GAP Peer-to-Peer Program. 

Anna-Sofia Nylund – Visual artist

Nylund is a Finnish-Swedish visual artist and filmmaker who has great knowledge of the Finnish-Swedish cultural field. She holds a Masters of Fine Arts at the University of Fine Arts, Helsinki. Nylunds main focus is on video- and performance art, but she has also worked with documentaries and theater, both as a director and a performer. Nylunds works has been shown at eg. Nuoret 2019 Taidehalli (Helsinki), Hangö teaterträff, Svenska Teatern, Galleria Huuto, Teater Viirus, KUVA/TILA and various film festivals. In September 2024 she will have a solo exhibition at Galleria Sinne in Helsinki. As a facilitator she aims to create a casual environment and bring out the unexpected from both participants and invited speakers. 

HOW TO APPLY

Application period 15.4. – 5.5. 2024 

We are looking for dedicated participants who intend to attend all sessions. If you are a professional artist, cultural producer, entrepreneur, educator or other type of creative who wants to join this programme, please send us a one-page application letter stating your interests, intentions and needs for attending the programme. The letter should be anonymous meaning we do not need to know your name, gender, ethnic background, age et cetera. However, please make sure you mention if you are applying as Finnish-Swede or a foreign-born professional. The selected candidates will be contacted in May.

NB.- This programme does not require the foreign-born participants to speak Swedish. We are interested in individuals who would like to take the Swedish integration path and build their footing in the Finnish-Swedish art and culture field.
