GAP LAB PROGRAMME: ART GOES TO VILLAGES

Municipalities of Borgå – Porvoo, Sibbo – Sipoo and Globe Art Point are now jointly calling for artists in the field of suburban art and diverse community art. The call is open until January 3rd, 2022 at 16:00 o’clock. The proposals are to be submitted via this online form. This GAP LAB is supported by the Swedish Cultural Foundation. Artists should have a connection to the Swedish language or/and to the Swedish-speaking environment or/and the Swedish-speaking public in Eastern Uusimaa.

For whom?
Artists living or/and working or/and wanting to work in the region of Eastern Uusimaa.

We are seeking up to 5 professional artists, Finnish and foreign-born, living and working in Finland. The artists will work with projects where the process itself will be open to the public. You can answer the call as an already formed group or as an individual willing to collaborate in a group. The group should consist of both Finnish as well as foreign-born artists. The municipalities arrange the working spaces in Borgå – Porvoo and Sibbo – Sipoo.

The call is part of the Globe Art Point´s GAP LAB programme and also part of the Kulttuuri kylissä – Kultur i byn (Culture in the Village). Residency includes one month working time between May and June and the outcome of this project will be presented in Borgå – Porvoo and Sibbo – Sipoo at a separately agreed time. There is flexibility to do preparatory work in the spring of 2022. Artists are paid one month’s salary of 2500 €. Working times are agreed with the working group and the municipalities.

Applicants are called from any artistic discipline of arts. Your background can be in anything from urban arts, digital arts, dance, circus, performance arts, music, poetry, visual arts or any other form or shape of art. Your art can also have social media as a platform.  We welcome cross-disciplinary artistic ideas and are open to unforeseen/or new concepts.

Kulttuuri kylissä – Kultur i byn (Culture in the Village)
The aim of the Kulttuuri kylässä – Kultur i byn (Culture in the Village) project is to implement a new kind of functional model for regional cooperation and establish a close-knit network to help the municipalities and other actors in the Helsinki-Uusimaa region to continue their cooperation. During the project, a common regional production structure will be created to increase the cultural and artistic involvement and participation of families with children and senior citizens, particularly those living in villages and suburbs, and to employ professional artists working in the region.

Borgå – Porvoo is a city in the Uusimaa region of Finland, situated on the southern coast about 35 kilometres east of the city border of Helsinki. Porvoo has 50 000 inhabitants and the official languages are Finnish and Swedish. Porvoo Old Town is a very popular tourist destination. www.visitporvoo.fi

Sibbo – Sipoo is a bilingual municipality close to Helsinki, approximately a 30 minute drive away from the capital of Finland. Sipoo has a population of 21 000 and is a fast-growing municipality with a long coastline and a huge national park. www.sipoo.fi

Globe Art Point (G.A.P) is an umbrella organization that was established in Helsinki in 2016 by a group of foreign born and Finnish artists and cultural workers with the aim to enhance diversity in the Finnish art and culture scene by supporting the working circumstances, visibility and cultural political status of the foreign-born artists and art workers resident in Finland. www.globeartpoint.fi
