Towards Systemic Change: Diversity Training Module for Cultural Leaders is now available for download
In a significant step towards greater inclusion and equity in the European arts and culture sector, the Access, Advocacy, and Active Inclusion – Pathways to Increasing Diversity in the Arts and Culture Field (AAA) project has officially launched its Diversity Training Module for Cultural Leaders. The launch event took place in Helsinki on 23 May, 2025, marking the release of a new educational resource developed to support cultural leaders, policymakers, and institutional stakeholders in implementing sustainable systemic change.
The training module, titled Towards Systemic Change, was developed in collaboration with cultural professionals from across Europe. It is based on study visits, qualitative and quantitative research including surveys and testimonies from artists and cultural workers with migratory backgrounds. The module identifies systemic barriers, structural gaps, and institutional practices that continue to limit access to opportunities, funding, and professional networks for highly skilled artists with diverse backgrounds.
“This training module is a timely and necessary tool to help our institutions reflect, evolve, and become more inclusive,” said Cansu Pylkkänen, the author of the training module, during her opening speech at the launch. “The arts have the unique power to shape societies and foster belonging. With the right tools and commitment, we can ensure that every cultural leader has the opportunity to contribute.”
The Towards Systemic Change module is designed to be user-friendly and adaptable to different contexts. It outlines practical strategies for addressing bias, discrimination, and exclusion within cultural institutions. It also provides tools for evaluating current practices and building action plans for long-term structural transformation. The training module is now available for free download.
