GAP LAB NEIGHBOURHOODS: Creativity, Community and Belonging in Meri-Rastila

31.10.2025 | News

Globe Art Point (GAP) has officially launched GAP LAB NEIGHBOURHOODS, a new initiative bringing free, inclusive art and culture courses to children and young people in Helsinki’s suburban regeneration areas, starting in Meri-Rastila.

The project aims to nurture creativity, confidence, and community connection among participants aged 7–16, especially those from diverse and underrepresented backgrounds.

Recognizing that many families in Meri-Rastila face socio-economic challenges and limited access to extracurricular activities, GAP LAB NEIGHBOURHOODS provides high-quality, bilingual (Finnish and English) art education that is both accessible and inspiring. The program’s goals are to encourage cultural participation, prevent social exclusion, build personal agency, and introduce art as a possible career path while strengthening local community ties.

Beginning November 12, 2025 at Kulttuuritila Merirasti, the program offers two weekly courses led by professional artists from diverse backgrounds: Visual Arts and Comics for children aged 7–12, and Urban Art and Culture for youth aged 13–16. Each session is designed to support self-expression, build social connections, and help participants discover the power of creativity in shaping identity and belonging.

Local schools are key partners in the project, helping to promote the courses, host demo sessions, and connect students with new creative opportunities. GAP warmly invites families, educators, and community members to spread the word, recommend participants, volunteer, or join upcoming info sessions at Kulttuuritila Merirasti.
