The Requirements for Joining Our Database
Creatives applying for our database must be professional art or culture makers. They should fall under one of the following categories:
⇒ Foreign-born creative professionals based in Finland.
⇒ Finland-raised creative professionals with a multicultural background.
⇒ Finnish returnees who were studying or working in the field of art and culture abroad for several years and lost connection with the local scene.
When filling in the online form, please provide a proof that you have been producing art, culture or teaching on a professional level by submitting either one of the following:
⇒ professional website
⇒ social media channels
⇒ and/or any online platform where you sell, promote or showcase your work (in case of insufficient information, you will be contacted to provide additional material).
Who Is a Professional Artist?
Defining what constitutes a professional artist can be complex. At Globe Art Point we use the following five criteria to guide us in this process:
- Membership in a professional artist association or union
- A proven track record of receiving compensation for artistic work
- Formal artistic education
- Previous grant awards supporting your artistic practice
- A strong record of exhibitions or performances in your field
To make a determination, we typically expect applicants to meet at least two of these five criteria. In case your application doesn’t provide enough information to determine whether you are a professional artist, we will ask you to provide additional materials that could help us in our reassessment. This might include an artist CV highlighting the history of your artistic career, university diplomas, confirmations of membership in professional artist associations or unions, documentation of any grant awards, recommendation letters from galleries or curators, or links to your online store, among other relevant materials.
Becoming a Member Will Bring You the Following Benefits
⇒ Visibility
Members of our database and their work will be promoted on our social media channels. Globe Art Point is here to disseminate information about your activities, creative productions, news and open calls. Your projects do not have to be organised in collaboration with our association, all we ask is that you provide us with promotional material (text, image, web link). Please remember our office language is English, but any other additional languages are welcomed.
NB. – posts shared with us on weekends or after working hours will not be shared until the next working day. Also your posts must have a clear agenda. Random posts will not be shared by us.
⇒ Community
Exclusive networking events for members of our database are organised three to four times per year, usually in the new year, spring, and autumn.
A private FB group has been created for our members to enable them to share their news, find new partners, seek information or promote their products and activities amongst each other. The group needs to grow and be active to be actually beneficial for our members. Therefore, please do join the group and make some noise there. Share your events, news and activities with the rest of our community and the others will eventually follow too.
⇒ Information Sharing
Members of our database are informed directly (GAP Creatives Database Info Mail) about our upcoming events and happenings as soon as they get released publicly. This means that our members can learn about our activities without having to browse the internet.
⇒ New Possibilities
Some of our open calls and programmes are open exclusively to members of GAP Creatives Database. Members of our database also get priority when searching for facilitators and partners for our projects and events. We distribute the contact information on our Creatives to various external parties who are in need of specifically skilled art and culture professionals for their projects.
Globe Art Point is open to project proposals for events and activities that could be organised in collaboration with our members. Please note that your proposals must support our mission. In cooperation with us, the members of our database can organise and host their events, classes or workshops in our premises, free of charge (conditions apply for commercial activities).
NB.– Globe Art Point does not produce art. Our main activity is advocacy and therefore, our events should be of educational character.
⇒ Safe Space Environment
The members of our database can reserve our facilities, free of charge (for non-commercial purposes), for private meetings, study sessions or whenever in need of space (booking in advance is a must). Please familiarise yourself with GAP’s Code of Ethics.
Procedure
Application and membership of our database is free of charge and once accepted, it is permanent up until you decide to leave on your own account (no explanations necessary).
The application period is open three times per year for a duration of one month (January, May and September).
Evaluation of the applications and the final decisions are made by the GAP Board and can take up to one month (February, June and October).
The individuals selected to join our database will be notified by email after their application is accepted and their profile added to the database. New members will be then announced publicly and their profiles featured individually on our social media channels, day-by-day.
