Navigating Unemployment as an Artist

When: 12.6. at 13:00 – 14:30
Where: Pengerkatu 11A, Kallio / Teams
How: Free, compulsory registration

As of January 1, 2025, Finland has restructured its employment services under the “TE Services 2024” reform. This reform transferred the responsibility for organising employment services from the central government to municipalities. Consequently, the former state-run Employment and Economic Development Offices (TE Offices) have been disbanded. In place of the TE Offices, 45 municipal employment areas have been established across Finland. These areas are now responsible for providing employment and integration services tailored to local needs. For example, in Helsinki, the services are now offered by Helsinki Employment Services.

On 12th of June between 13:00 and 14:30, Globe Art Point and Post Theatre Collective, in collaboration with Helsinki Employment Services, are organising an info session for artists and creatives interested in understanding their rights and obligations as job seekers while continuing to develop their professional careers.

During the session, an expert from Helsinki Employment Services will give a 45-minute presentation covering topics such as what constitutes being an artist entrepreneur, how voluntary activities affect an individual’s unemployment status, and how one can continue developing their creative practice while seeking work in another field to secure temporary income without giving up their artistic career. What are the dos and don’ts? What are some tips and tricks?

The presentation will be followed by an audience Q&A.

Please note that the session will address these topics on a general level. Individual cases will not be discussed as each individual case involves specific complexities and cannot be applied broadly.
