How can a creator of fine art use AI as a tool, or as a source for inspiration? What critical points should an artist consider when using large language model artificial intelligence?

Speakers: Matti Kurkela (YLE) and Carita Forsgren (TAMK)

Matti Kurkela: I’m a visual journalist with a long and diverse background in graphic roles within the media industry. My current passion is Artificial Intelligence. As an AI expert, I extensively use its tools not just to enhance creative workflows, but to discover entirely new ways of creating and telling visual stories. In my lecture about Artificial Intelligence as a Creative Tool, I will share insights from my own work, showcasing how I use AI as both a visual journalist and in my personal experimental projects. I’ll provide practical examples from my professional practice and explore the creative possibilities of AI through my artistic experiments.

Carita Forsgren: As a visual designer, lecturer for visual design and creator of experimental videos, I am both curious and critical concerning the use of large language model AIs. Without knowledge of what these tools do, we cannot fully understand them. In order to de-mystify AI’s, we need open discussion and also experimentation.

The Kuvata Project is implemented by Tampere University of Applied Sciences, the University of Lapland, and Globe Art Point ry. The Häme Centre for Economic Development, Transport, and the Environment has granted partial funding from the European Union’s ESF+ program for the Kuvata Project.
