Shima Salehi is an interdisciplinary visual artist with Iranian roots, based in Oulu, Finland. Her practice explores how cultural memory, inherited visual languages and lived experience shift as they move between places, people and contexts. Drawing from Persian calligraphy, ornament and material traditions, she develops contemporary works that reflect on migration, belonging, gender, resilience and ecological vulnerability. Rather than treating cultural identity as fixed, Salehi is interested in how it is carried, transformed and reinterpreted through movement and encounter. Her work spans painting, installation and material-based processes, allowing the questions and context of each project to shape its form. Through this practice, she brings personal and collective histories into dialogue with contemporary social and environmental realities, creating works that examine connection, displacement and the changing meanings of place.
