Joonas Sirviö is a versatile Finnish visual artist whose works reflect a deep connection with the surrounding world. He received his artistic education in Finland at Taidekoulu Maa, as well as internationally in Ireland at RHA Art School. In addition, his studies include teacher training in Finland and Spain, as well as a Master of Science degree in engineering from Helsinki University of Technology.

Joonas Sirviö’s works have been exhibited extensively both in Finland and abroad, including in Dublin and Barcelona. His works have been acquired for both private and public international collections.

The artist’s practice is not based solely on the direct representation of the surrounding world; instead, he uses elements of reality—people, objects, and nature—as a starting point to which he gives an abstract form of expression. Joonas Sirviö avoids simple imitation and focuses on creating deeper, more nuanced interpretations. His working method is often intensive and multi-layered, as he works on several pieces simultaneously. This results in varied expression and opens new perspectives in the creative process.

In his painting, Joonas Sirviö engages in a continuous dialogue between his inner experiences and the forms of painting itself. He seeks an expression that goes beyond the surface and leads the viewer out of everyday reality toward something more personal and universal. The artist employs a wide range of techniques—from oil paints to watercolors, watercolor pencils, graphite pencils, and charcoal—and constantly experiments with new ways of approaching materials. He allows his works time to mature, sometimes leaving them to “rest” in order to gain distance from them and discover new, unexpected perspectives.
