Access, Advocacy And Active Inclusion – Pathways to increasing Diversity in the Arts and Culture Field (AAA)

AAA is an Erasmus+ project lead by IMMART in partnership with Globe Art Point in Finland and Fresh Arts Coalition Europe in France. The project is dedicated to empowering the European arts and culture community to reshape their approach toward artists with migration backgrounds and cultural workers.

This transformation centers on promoting inclusive practices, equality, and the combatting of discrimination as part of organizational development. AAA achieves this mission by enhancing the quality of adult and lifelong learning opportunities among artists and cultural workers through comprehensive research, the creation of instructional resources, and the establishment of training and mentoring pathways for artists and cultural practitioners at the local, national, and transnational levels. The initiative will include a series of educational visits to Denmark, France, and Finland. These visits will inform the development of blueprints for prototype learning materials, training modules, a mentorship program, and a digital guide tailored to the integration of artists and cultural professionals with migrant backgrounds. These resources will be crafted using a creative design methodology, which involves rigorous evaluation, live testing, both in-person and online, and an iterative redesign processes.

Together with our partners, Fresh Arts Coalition Europe (FACE) and Globe Art Point (GAP), IMMART will enhance its knowledge and competencies for the benefit of our organisation and constituents as well.

The project will yield a prototype for a transnational inclusion training module designed for cultural leaders and industry gatekeepers, a digital guide to facilitate the inclusion of artists and cultural professionals with migration backgrounds (as an educational tool to enhance engagement with this underrepresented marginalised group) within arts and culture organisations, and a prototype mentoring program tailored to  artists with migration backgrounds.

The objectives of the AAA project are to:

Enable the European arts and culture sector to change practices towards migrant artists and cultural workers by elevating inclusive practices, equality, and non-discrimination in organizational transformation.
Increase the quality of adult and lifelong learning education through research, design, and development of guidance material and training/mentoring pathways for artists and cultural actors at the local, national, and transnational level.

Target Groups

The primary target groups for the AAA project include:

Artists and cultural workers with migration backgrounds.
Cultural leaders and industry gatekeepers.
Stakeholders in the arts and culture sector, including public and private institutions, funding bodies, and educational institutes.

Towards Systemic Change: Diversity Training Module for Cultural Leaders is now available for download

Towards Systemic Change: Diversity Training Module for Cultural Leaders is a practical and reflective guide designed to support arts and culture professionals committed to building a more equitable and inclusive sector.

This module was created in response to growing awareness across Europe that diversity must be more than a surface-level ambition—it must be a organizational commitment. While many cultural leaders recognize the importance of inclusion, translating intention into action remains a challenge. Artists and cultural professionals with migratory backgrounds continue to face barriers in accessing opportunities, resources, and recognition. This document addresses those barriers and provides actionable tools for dismantling them.

At the heart of this training is a comprehensive checklist, designed to help organizations assess their current practices and identify concrete steps for progress. Divided into foundational and advanced actions, the checklist allows institutions of all sizes and capacities to begin their inclusion journey or deepen their commitment to equity. It is not a one-time tool but a living resource to guide reflection, track impact, and foster accountability.

Developed through cross-border collaboration and informed by study visits, surveys, and research, this module offers more than recommendations—it offers a roadmap. Whether you’re starting from scratch or building on existing work, you are invited to explore, adapt, and use this guide to shape long-term change in your organization and community.

Diversity is not just about representation. Inclusion is not just about policy. This guide invites cultural leaders to lead with intention, listen deeply, and act boldly.
