Vedran Brnjetić: BEYOND THE CLOSET

27 May 2026 – 23 June 2026

GAP Window is pleased to present its tenth and final exhibition of the season, Beyond the Closet, opening on 27 May 2026. Continuing the project’s commitment to transforming public space into a site of reflection, dialogue, and visibility, this exhibition presents a photographic series by Croatian photographer Vedran Brnjetić, also known as Misguided Viking.

About the Exhibition

Beyond the Closet brings together a selection of photographs captured at burlesque, draglesque, queerlesque, and drag performances across Finland between 2022 and 2025. Through vivid stage imagery and carefully observed moments, the exhibition celebrates performers who challenge norms, embrace transformation, and create spaces of freedom through performance art.

Created in response to increasingly worrying global social and political developments, the exhibition acts as a gesture of visibility and affirmation. At a time when many people feel pressure to withdraw, protect themselves, or remain unseen, these photographs instead focus on expression, presence, and courage. The performers captured in these images occupy the stage fully and unapologetically, pushing boundaries while inviting audiences into moments of awe, joy, vulnerability, and energy.

The works highlight the unique atmosphere of live performance through dramatic lighting, theatrical aesthetics, roleplay, movement, and split second expressions that can only exist in performance spaces. Installed in the GAP Window, the exhibition transforms public space into a celebration of queer visibility, artistic freedom, and self expression.

About the Artist

Vedran Brnjetić is a photographer originally from Croatia and currently based in Finland. His practice centers largely around event photography, with a particular focus on live music, alternative culture, and performance based events. Over the years, he has documented a wide range of artists and events across Finland, from medieval festivals and rock concerts to burlesque and Pride events.

His portfolio includes coverage of musicians such as Andy McCoy and Nicky Rothen, alongside performances in smaller underground and alternative venues. He is also actively engaged in documenting boudoir, fetish, drag, and burlesque communities, often working within spaces where performance and identity intersect.

More recently, Vedran has expanded into studio photography and private shoots, continuing to develop a visual language shaped by gothic, macabre, film noir, rock, metal, and Halloween inspired aesthetics. Within the field, he is known both as CroVikingPhoto for broader photography work and as Misguided Viking for projects connected to his darker and alternative artistic interests.

In the GAP Window

With Beyond the Closet, GAP continues its mission of bringing diverse artistic voices into everyday urban life. The exhibition invites viewers to encounter moments of performance and transformation outside traditional gallery settings, offering visibility, celebration, and reflection in the heart of the city.
