Jane Hughes (b.1984, Dublin) currently lives and works in Perniö and Helsinki, she previously lived and worked in Germany for over a decade. She works with painting, drawing, and installation. Her current interests include researching remnants of the past, personal and social histories, and the imprints of shifting landscapes and geology through the language of paint. She culls material from faded photos from bygone eras, decaying structures, myriads of rock formations, mountain peaks, soft moss, slimy seaweed, and coastline erosion from the Atlantic, Arctic and Baltic regions. For her, these textures give hints to our shared histories and fragile futures. Her work is part of the collections of the Finnish National Gallery, the Hospital District of Helsinki and Uusimaa (HUS) and the National Irish Visual Arts Library (nival). Hughes received her MA in Environmental Art at Aalto University, Helsinki (2012) and BA in Painting at National College of Art Design, Dublin (2006).
