Katia Skylar
My deep interest lies in exploring the connection between the body and the mind, between movement, self-being, and creativity. Bodily movement is the core language of my acting and performance work, where movement interpretation of a spoken word is created with the physical theatre methods and dance. In terms of the dialogues and spoken word, I like to experiment with the multilingual approach. Among the themes I am interested to work (on and off stage): limitations, gender roles and expectations, non-human entities, fighting the mundane brutality and bringing beauty into the focus. I also like to work with site-specific and audience-driven projects. I am a member of the Finnish Actors Union (FIA) and Dramatic Combat Finland ry. I was born in the still USSR but grew up in Russia, on a Far Eastern edge of the country (Arsenyev and Vladivostok). It was a very unstable and wild transition time of a collapsed regime, and it was when I learnt to question any kind of authority or structure I have been facing later in my life.
